Psalm 96 Ministries
Seminary Training
"We must recapture a missions emphasis on well-trained pastors who are able to think, live, preach and lead biblically, especially if our aim is to 'finish the task' and complete the Great Commission... When only five out of one-hundred pastors are trained for pastoral ministry, the mission of God is slowed and church health suffers, thereby impeding sustainable church growth."
--Brian Considine in The Urgent Need for Trained Pastors and the Great Commission
Is seminary training a requirement?
When Jesus selected the twelve disciples and Paul gave criteria for elders and deacons, we see that moral character and willingness to follow Christ are given much greater weight than theological training or academic degrees. As such, we do not wish to place requirements on pastors that exceed the demands made in the New Testament, yet at the same time we understand that de-emphasizing the need for sound Biblical and Theological training leads to churches that suffer from pastoral error.
How do we train tomorrow's leaders?
Psalm 96 Ministries brings a seminary education to students in Pichiyacu through Angel Aguirre as he makes biweekly visits to teach classes. The material used is from Reach Beyond, Miami International Seminary, and Third Millenium, which provide freely availabl materials in Spanish. Students must attend classes, complete reading and writing assignments, and complete exams to pass each course. The duration of the program is three years.
