Church Planting

The local church is God's ordained instrument to reach the world for Jesus Christ (1 Th. 1:8). It is the church that is the "pillar and buttress of the truth" (1 Tim. 3:15). It is the church that, against which, the gates of Hell will never prevail (Mat. 16:18). Yet many today are seeking to fulfill the Great Commission apart from the church, especially when it comes to missionaries.

Looking for Opportunities

As God opens doors, we hope to plant new churches in villages along the Cayapas river.  Mission trips (from USA churches) have spread the gospel to over a dozen villages along the river, and these seeds have led directly to the two most recent church plants in the area.  We wish to continue the practice of bringing teams to the jungle to share the gospel with those who have not heard.

Pastoral Placement

A goal for Psalm 96 Ministries is the placement of full-time pastors in church plants.  As Jesus said in Matthew 9:37, "The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few."  While the goal is to have each village with its own church pastored by a trained native of the area, that is not a possibility at this time.  (It should be no surprise that the villages needing to hear the gospel have no local pastors.)  Identifying and training local pastors will be a key component of Psalm 96 Ministries' work.

Leadership Development

Healthy church leadership requires more than a preaching pastor.  For each church plant we would identify and train candidates in the church for roles of deacons and elders.

Spritual Growth of the Flock

Spiritual growth should not be limited to a sermon on Sunday morning, but should occur throughout the week as well.  We would encourage deacons and elders to host small groups within the church for further discipleship and spiritual growth of church members.  Each church should also teach its congregants a Biblical model of church planting - and if led by God to do so - should seek to plant a church themselves.
